Zincal® coated steel from Safal Steel offers an exceptional alternative to regular galvanized steel. The method of coating steel with a combination of Aluminium, Zinc, and Silicon (55% Aluminium, 43.5% Zinc, and 1.5% Silicon) has been thoroughly studied and outperforms conventional galvanized steel.
Zincal® is a steel product that is produced using innovative methods and techniques to enhance its strength, formability, and versatility. The production process involves continuously hot-dipping rolled steel into a 55% Aluminum, 43.5% Zinc, and 1.5% Silicon Alloy, which extends the durability and service life of the steel. The patented coating on Zincal® protects the steel in two ways:
Zincal® is the only African manufacturer of the patented Al/Zn technology on the continent.
Zincal® is a roofing solution that has a lower thermal mass than traditional materials such as galvanized steel and clay tile. This is achieved through the addition of aluminum, which increases the reflection of sunlight and helps regulate the temperature inside the building. By using Zincal®, the building will be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Additionally, Zincal® has a high solar reflective index (SRI), which provides optimal performance and transfers less heat than other traditional roofing options.
ZincAL® steel is designed to support the longevity of Solar Panel Lifespan and is produced locally to fit every South African building, minimizing the cost of ownership. The durability of a metal roof is affected by both the PV panel system and roofing assembly, so both should be taken into consideration during design, installation, and maintenance.
In cases where incompatible metals are used, galvanic corrosion can occur, leading to a breakdown of the surface of the solar/PV panel. However, the advanced AZ coated alloy used in Zincal® is less prone to galvanic corrosion when combined with any solar/PV panel-compatible aluminum frame.
Our aluminum-zinc coated steel product is a more efficient option than galvanized roofing. Building professionals are encouraged to choose ZincAL® over cheap imported alternatives that come from unknown sources, often in the Far East. There is only one original ZincAL® product, identified by the brand stamp on the back of the formed roof sheet.
Research shows that ZincAL® roofing, which is coated with aluminum and zinc, can last for 60 years or more. This is much longer than the typical lifespan of solar/PV panels, which is around 25-30 years. This means that when you replace your roof, you won't have to remove and reinstall the PV system.
Most PV installations are added to existing buildings. However, with more focus on energy efficiency and being able to resist power outages, new commercial and warehouse buildings are being designed with PV arrays already installed.
To make sure that our product is high-quality and can handle different weather conditions, we use different test methods:
•Salt Spray Testing (Q Fog Testing) - This test exposes our products to salt fumes at specific temperatures for a certain amount of time. The length of time depends on the type of coating.
•Live Test Stations - We have set up test stations in different places to observe how our product performs under everyday weather conditions.
Colorplus® is a premium product; that is available in various colours; designed to withstand harsh climates in South Africa, providing increased service life, superior thermal protection, aesthetic value, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendly benefits for buildings.
Colorplus® is a premium product designed to withstand harsh climates in South Africa, providing increased service life, superior thermal protection, aesthetic value, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendly benefits for buildings. Years of research and development with paint partners have resulted in a paint process that meets the demands of steel roofing in the 21st century, using innovative pigments to avoid rapid color change and maintain a fresh appearance for extended periods. The coating technology also reduces chalking and improves resistance to wind-borne contaminants and dust. This advanced pre-painted coating technology ensures that the modified polyesters resist dirt, keeping buildings cleaner for longer. With its balance of cost, quality, UV resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness, and flexibility, Colorplus® is redefining the pre-painted coated steel industry.
The patented coating used in this product offers dual protection for steel by utilizing both aluminum and zinc components. The aluminum component acts as a barrier, shielding the steel from extreme atmospheric conditions, while the zinc provides sacrificial protection and additional protection at cut edges.
Incorporating color not only enhances appearance but also enhances solar reflection. Research has shown that lighter colors have higher reflectance compared to darker colors, as per the color spectrum. Please note that the colors displayed may differ and may not exactly match the metal swatch. Certain colors are available in specialized paint systems such as Polyurethane and PVDF, but terms and conditions apply.
